Kathy Reynolds, B.S.Ed. & M.Ed

I am a teacher, administrator and mentor with more than 35 years of experience with students from Pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade. I have always enjoyed teaching reading and watching the "light" come on as understanding occurs within the thought processes of my students.  I am a believer in phonics and have seen many students not only succeed in the basic skills of reading but also develop a passion for reading.

Through my journey as a reading teacher I experienced a wide variety of my students' struggles. Then, I had my third son and hit face to face with my own dyslexic child. On my journey to help my son, I received quite the education in reading strategies and best practices to help struggling readers. It was not until several years after his graduation that I received formal training in dyslexia and dyslexic tutoring. To my amazement, much of what I had been using in the classroom was Orton Gillingham based without me labeling it as such. The whole process of tutoring the child with dyslexia is natural for me, and I have been using the strategies for years.

After watching multiple students struggle with diagnosed dyslexia and coming to the realization that, due to lack of funding in both public and private schools, there is little help outside of the private tutor for these students, I decided that I would start my own tutoring service using the Susan Barton program. I am rewarded watching students overcome struggles every week as they are given what they need to be successful in the world of reading. I believe dyslexic tutoring, with focused strategies for students with dyslexia makes a big difference, and I am happy to provide private tutoring services to students across the Kansas City, MO area.
